WorkSafe operation targets truckies

DURING Operation Ryan Safe, an operation on the Calder Highway targeting long-haul truck drivers, police reported that six out of every 10 heavy haulage trucks were issued with improvement notices by WorkSafe.

Sergeant Frank Peiffer said the operation was a success, but said results were disappointing.

15 out of of 25 heavy haulage trucks were issued with notices.

The trucks breached a series a regulations, leading to improvement notices being issued.

"It was a high number and it will probably indicate that there will be more operations in the future,” Sergeant Peiffer said.

The safety operation was a joint initiative of the police and WorkSafe Victoria.
