A NEW truck and trailer design has the potential to lift the productivity of the popular truck and dog combinations used by many operators in parts of Australia.
Developed by Gorski Engineering, CMV Volvo from Laverton and Cartage Australia of Sunshine, the new design has delivered a payload advantage for quarry truck operators through a PBS approved blueprint.
The 19.6 metre SMART tipper and quad dog trailer combination gets a 1.8 tonne payload advantage on Victorian general access limits and a 5.5 tonne advantage at 54 tonne on Level 2 roads.
The design includes a Volvo 6x4 truck with 14.5 cubic metre tipper body and four-axle 24.5 cubic metre tipper trailer.
CMV Volvo’s sales manager Charles Bunker-Smith said the development of the PBS compliant truck and dog took about eight months from the first enquiry through to the permits being issued.
He said this means however that people can purchase the combination with the certainty it will meet PBS compliance.
The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) Chairman, Trevor Martyn applauded Volvo and said it is good news seeing the industry taking a blueprint approach to PBS compliance.
He added however that unless PBS approval moves to automatic access to all relevant roads, operators will still be stuck with the tangled red-tape associated with the current system.
