Roads upgrade for Victoria could cost $400 million

WORK will begin this year on what could be a $400 million dollar project to upgrade key freight routes in Victoria such as Tullamarine Freeway and Broadmeadows Road.

The project is part of the $1.9 billion Metro Ring Road initiative to link Melbourne’s road network.

A spokesman for Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas confirmed the report but says nothing can be discussed until after the Victorian Budget is released next week.

There are also reports of the development of rail links at Avalon Airport, which has won the backing of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox.

Fox, who last week opened a new facility in Essendon, says rail links at the airport are inevitable and said government approval was all that delayed the development getting off the ground.
