Greens’ climate change bills to overtax trucking industry

THE AUSTRALIAN Trucking Association says the Green Party’s proposed climate change bills will overtax the trucking industry by $1.2b a year.

The ATA says this is on top of the fuel price increase caused by the introduction of the emissions trading scheme.

According to the ATA, the Greens want to make trucking companies pay for their greenhouse emissions twice, once through high fuel prices and then through a 76% increase in the rate of fuel tax.

The ATA claims it supports the government’s emissions trading scheme, despite increasing the petrol prices.
