A new product to be launched by Andromeda in collaboration with the Australian Logistics Council and Linfox offers fuel savings up of 15% through driver education.
The global financial crisis, climate change and rising fuel costs represent a clear threat for commercial road transport operators in Australia.
Eco-Drive™ has been developed to assist transport operators achieve fuel efficiencies; driving down costs and reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions.
Eco-Drive™ is based on curriculum developed by Linfox, where staff have measured up to 14% fuel efficiency gains in individual vehicles utilising the principles of Eco-Drive™.
David McInnes, Linfox Group Manager, Environment & Climate change, says a critical component for success in the program comes from connecting sustainability with driver efficiency in the minds of staff.
"Eco-Drive™ helps by providing staff with a clear understanding of and a direct responsibility for the environment and carbon emissions," McInness says.
"We are already underway and have managed a significant fuel economy and carbon-efficiency.”
The Eco-Drive™ combination of e-learning, face-to-face exercises where required, and sustained training over an extended period has delivered cost efficiencies of up to 20% internationally.
Eco-Drive™ is designed to work for companies with fleets of commercial vehicles of 1 to over 10,000.
Over 200 transport and logistics companies in Australia have requested information to darw, and a growing number have signed up to the early adopter opportunity to benefit from a significant discount.
Support and participation has come from the Australian Logistics Council, Linfox, Woolworths, and Wettenhalls, all pioneering organisations combining sustainability with excellence in business best practice.
Eco-Drive™ is a recession-oriented product designed to address cost saving and the very current issue of carbon efficiency.
The importance of this fuel efficiency program cannot be underestimated, for road transport operators and for the environment.
In the current economic climate, the green agenda in 2009 will be strongly focused on the tried and tested environmental strategy of energy reduction and cost savings.
By applying simple lessons in driving efficiency, already tested and proven by the industry, Eco-Drive™ offers the opportunity to save up to 20% in fuel savings, significantly easing some pressure of the economic slowdown.
Andromeda and the Australian Logistics Council are committed to launching Eco-Drive™ as an industry wide initiative.
With full penetration of the road transport industry in Australia, Eco-Drive™ has the potential to wipe off 1% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions each year (or 4.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum).
Andromeda CEO, Robert Clarke, “We are thrilled to be launching Eco-Drive™ and feel confident this educational solution will deliver not only cost savings to operators but can also make a real impact on the emissions output of one of Australia’s most carbon intensive industries," he says.
"In the lead-up to the implementation of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme next year, Eco-Drive™ represents an impactful and cost-effective emissions reduction solution.”
