Australian truck market recovers slowly from downturn

AUSTRALIA’S truck market continues to show signs of recovery from the economic slowdown with almost 2,500 units reported to have been delivered last month.

Truck company Isuzu remained in the top spot, with European marques gaining a foothold in the medium and heavy classifications, with all brands increasing their market share.

The light and medium duty truck market along with the van market continue to improve month-on-month but the heavy duty sector recorded another contraction.

Kenworth remained in the top spot in the class with 103 units delivered in May, with Volvo claiming second with 89 deliveries.

In the van segment, Mercedes-Benz remained the clear leader, nearly doubling the market share of its nearest rival, with 48.7 percent compared to 26.1 percent.

FIAT was reported to be comfortably ahead of Volkswagen in second, 46 units to 23, followed by Iveco and Renault.
