ATA opposes decision to stop Sunday storage fee exemptions

AUSTRALIAN Trucking Association NSW has expressed outrage over a decision by Port Botany’s two stevedoring companies to stop its Sunday storage fee exemptions.

According to ATA NSW, from 25 October 2009 Patrick will operate as per normal on Sundays, meaning the day will no longer be exempt when calculating free storage.

ATA NSW says DP World will stop its weekend free storage policy from 1 November 2009.

ATA NSW claims the trucking industry was not informed of the changes, which will increase the cost of all goods passing through the port.

According to the association, trucks normally carry empty containers to the port before picking up full ones, but under the changes operators will be forced to make multiple trips.

ATA NSW will continue to oppose the changes at all levels.
