NSW’s peak trucking industry body, Australian Trucking Association (ATA) NSW is fed up with the state government’s lack of action to fix the ongoing problems experienced by trucking operators at the DP World terminal at Port Botany.
ATA NSW Container Group chairman, Mike Moylan, says Thursday night trucking operators had again experienced delays of between four and five hours at the terminal, this time due to a computer outage.
“Just after 6pm on Thursday night, DP World advised it was cancelling the 7pm and 8pm time slots, without any consultation with operators. This left those who had engaged drivers for the night to continue to pay for their services until operations resumed after 9pm,” Moylan says.
“Thursday night’s issues are just the latest in a string of problems, with 28 significant delays for trucking operators since 1 December 2009.”
According to ATA NSW, 53% of the working days last December have seen incidents that caused delays from one to eight hours. Almost 50% of these delays have been due to computer related issues.
“The transport industry should not be held accountable to pay for the inefficient practices and service failures of others at Port Botany,” Moylan says.
“ATA NSW is again asking the Minister to step in and take decisive action immediately, to ensure the ongoing problems that have plagued the port’s operations are resolved quickly."
